Furnica faraon este purtatoare de numeroase boli, precum salmonella, streptococi si stafilococi. Este omnivora (polifaga) si se hraneste cu substante bogate in albumina, precum carne, carnati si paine, dar si sange, puroi si saliva. Aceste furnici sunt atrase de bandaje si pansamente si se hranesc cu carne si sange din rani, transmitand totodata diversi microbi, ele fiind o problema serioasa, mai ales in spitale. Furnica faraon provoaca pagube materialelor, cand patrunde in aparate electronice, de exemplu in computer, unde provoaca scurtcircuite.
