Grégory Lemarchal was a French pop singer (13 May 1983-30 April 2007), born in the French regioin of Chambéry, Savoie. In 1995 he became France's champion of acrobatic rock— a form of competitive rock 'n roll dancing— but Lemarchal's short-lived career in pop music began when he won reality TV programme Star Academy on 22 December 2004. As part of the show, Lemarchal performed live duets with famous French stars, including Yannick Noah, Michel Sardou and Patrick Bruel. He released his debut single Ecris l'histoire in March 1995, which peaked at number two in the French charts and eventually went platinum. His album Je deveins moi was released on 18 April 2005 and entered the charts at number one. In January 2006, he won the breakthrough artist of the year award at the NRJ Music Awards. Lemarchal recorded Même Si, a duet with British artist Lucie Silvas that same year, reaching number two in the French singles charts. Lemarchal tragically died of cystic fibrosis in Paris in 2007.
